EXPLORING AND PHOTOGRAPHING AROUND CABO DE GATA, SPAIN
In September 2015, I decided to go and explore Spain’s coasts, looking for beautiful new landscapes to shoot. My first stop was in the area around Cabo de Gata, in the southeast of the country. I stayed at Rodalquilar for a couple of days, exploring around with my cameras.
The coasts around Rodalquilar feature alternating sandy and rocky beaches. I went looking for patterns in the rocky part of the coast, which I found much more interesting to shoot. The gloomy weather inspired me to shoot Rodalquilar in a dramatic, deep and contrasty black & white, definitely more conducive to the mood of the place. The grey sky and the black rocks where almost monochromatic anyway, and what little colour was left didn’t add much to the graphic strength of the images.
After Rodalquilar, I went exploring around the Cabo de Gata itself, photographing Arrecife de las Sirenas as well as a little cove with amazing basaltic columns coming out of the sea. A last stop at Torcal de Antequera completed my tour there. Below you’ll find a few images for you to enjoy (click on the images to enlarge):
